Transport Museum Wythall Welcomes Young Trustees

Writer's picture: Dean HowdleDean Howdle

It is with pleasure that the board of Trustees can announce the recruitment of two young Trustees, Adam Marsden and Tom Kelly.

The Young Trustee movement in the charity sector is a key initiative towards sustainability and provides an organisation with development and continuity of leadership. We were introduced to this initiative after witnessing first hand successes at the Waterworks Museum Hereford Waterworks Museum and online information including the Young Trustees Movement.

The key responsibility of a Trustee is to oversee the running of an organisation in line with the requirements of the Charities Commission and develop new initiatives. This is the same for young Trustees with the only difference being that they will need to reapply at the age of 26.

The scheme provides Wythall with an opportunity to both teach and learn. In addition, we hope they will also develop their management skills working directly with the senior team.

By way of introduction, I asked each of them to provide a short overview about themselves:

Tom Kelly

My name is Tom, and I am excited to take on the role of trustee at Wythall Transport Museum. I have been a volunteer at the museum since 2010, with a particular focus on the railway, however I am keen to get involved with the wider museum. Professionally, I am an accountant with EY, one of the Big 4 firms, where I bring expertise in finance and governance that I hope will benefit the museum. I look forward to contributing to the museum’s future and supporting the dedicated team that makes this amazing place work!

Adam Marsden

I have been volunteering at the museum since 2017 - starting off serving in the cafe and shop before more recently conducting, driving and supporting the operation of the main event days. I have been working in the bus industry for many years having started out at National Express and since working for Go-Ahead Oxford where I was the Network Planning Manager before recently moving into Consultancy with Systra. I am very excited to have the privilege of this role at our brilliant museum and look forward to continuing to work with everyone.

If you have any questions, contact me.
