BIRMINGHAM 'NEW LOOK' BUS

3009 is from the third batch of one hundred Guy 'New Look' buses for Birmingham, which were 27ft [8.23m] long (the first batch had been 26ft). Their bodies were constructed as a single entity, unlike earlier buses with the upper and lower decks having separate frames; most notable differences were slightly larger windows, and an extra seat at the right rear wheelbox.

3009 was new to Miller Street Garage in July 1953, among a hundred buses replacing Birmingham's last trams on services along Lichfield Road and beyond to Short Heath, Erdington, or Pype Hayes. Its long stay at Miller Street ended in December 1971 when it was transferred to Acocks Green Garage.

Preservation
3009 was retired in 1975 and sold in February 1976 to Peter Wigley who was responsible for its initial fine restoration. It was latterly owned by Steve Endler, from whom Kevin Hill - Wythall's master coachpainter - purchased it in March 2013.
