A CZECH UP ON WIGSTON D9S

Mike Greenwood recently received an e-mail from the Czech Republic that his excellent D9 brochure had found its way there, the sender being a Mr David Griffiths, who wonders whether he drove the last built D9 into Wigston garage.

My "home garage" being Wigston, Mike passed the enquiry over to myself as I kept a fairly meticulous log of D9 movements, particularly towards the end of operation. Sure enough, the last D9s to run at Wigston I have as being withdrawn in August 1977 and 5445 (EHA 445D) was indeed one of the last three still in service. I must admit I had not realised that 5445 was used at Wigston, but my log quite clearly has it recorded for the Summer of 1977, so yes, our man in Prague is quite correct.

The question he would like answering, was he definitely the last driver to drive a D9 off service and into Wigston garage? His initial request came via usteckabus2001@volny.cz, but his last e-mail came from info@prirodnisvet.cz. Does any other member have information they can forward?

My own question is, how many other D9 drivers have retired to the Czech Republic?
