Omnibus 199 - July 2010

AGM

BaMMOT's Annual General Meeting was held on the (cold, wet) morning of Saturday 29 May.

Business followed the usual format, with Dave Taylor presenting the formal Annual Report, Malcolm Keeley reporting on collections and commercial matters, Phil Ireland discussing the Museum's forward planning, and Paul Gray presenting the accounts. In addition, Andrew Gardner presented a brief report on 'Omnibus'. There was then opportunity for the members to talk about various matters arising from these reports, including discussions on encouraging existing members to become more active, and how to involve younger people in the Museum.

By and large, most of the Museum's activities have been reported in 'Omnibus' during the past year; there were no great surprises. Key points were the granting of Accredited Museum status, the 50th Anniversary of the M1, the new Guide Book, the recovery of school visits after the loss of John Rollings, and a continued need for someone to deal with marketing the Museum. One significant statistic was the 25% increase in visitor numbers between 2008 and 2009, many of whom came on days when special events were not being staged.

However, the Museum would open for fewer days this year, to ease the volunteer workload.

Each of the speakers thanked the volunteers and the private owners for their assistance towards the continuing commercial success of the Museum and its collections.

After the meeting, there was an opportunity to examine Ted Thornton's architectural drawings of the proposed extension to the side of the Shire Hall, which is the next major development envisaged by the Trustees.
