WINTER WORKS
The main news is that it has been cold and wet and consequently the number of people seen on the Museum site has been fewer than usual. Fortunately there have been no pressing jobs round the site that had to be done during the winter shut-down although at the time of writing, mid-February, a blitz on cleaning will be required before reopening on 1 March.
Changes in the Power Hall have been that the clock mentioned last month which originates from the Bull Ring Bus Station has been mounted on the wall and keeps good time. Lower down on the same wall further bus stop signs have been mounted to complement the circular Birmingham ones already mounted there. The O C Power plaque has now been mounted in the audio-visual room, above the model of Carlyle Works.
Further tidying of the site on both sides of the Shire Hall has resulted in a mound of redundant items which are awaiting a skip in the next few days. One of the milk floats intended only for spares has been stripped of these and will soon be no more. A second float is to follow the same route. Meanwhile, the Den Oudsten airport bus has had its engine, gearbox and other useful parts removed and the rest will go for scrap.
Work has continued on a number of Trust vehicles including Walsall 815, the Barton PD1, the Soudley Valley Tiger Cub, the Southport open topper and the BMMO S12.
