Omnibus 190 - January 2009

LEARNING LINKS

As I reported in 'Omnibus' no.189, Alison Driver from Meadow Green School, Wythall, has begun her placement with us to provide us with a package of activities for visiting schoolchildren, related to their National Curriculum coursework. As it is always nice to be able to put a face to a name, Alison has kindly agreed to be photographed for 'Omnibus'.

I am very pleased to report that my article in the last issue of 'Omnibus' has resulted in a new recruit for the Museum Guide team. Should there be anyone else out there who would like to become involved please contact me on education@wythall.org.uk.

We are to run a training day for Museum Guides, which we have now booked for Tuesday 27 January, at the Museum. The course is being run by Paul Harding of Discover History, and is funded by Worcestershire County Council. Whilst this is ostensibly for Museum Guides, should any other members wish to attend, you will be most welcome.

One of the problems with attracting school visits is the cost of providing transport to our Museum. Schools were telling me that they had to be carried in vehicles equipped with seat belts. However, I have now received clarification from Worcestershire County Council Education Department, which allows us to use our vehicles to collect schoolchildren. Those schools within easy reach of the Museum will be contacted in the near future. We should be able to offer a saving on what they would normally expect to pay (removing a major obstacle to booking), whilst at the same time adding to the value of the booking.
