AROUND THE SITE
After all the activity leading up to the Easter opening it is hardly surprising there is less to report in this edition of “Omnibus”. The most obvious change is the re-marking of the lines on the car park - the rain stopped for long enough for the car park to dry out!
Otherwise most effort has been directed at the routine, but nevertheless important, jobs needed to keep the museum running. The dustbins have to be put out for collection, usually by Fred Withers and Phil Hoole, every Wednesday; Dennis Herbert keeps on with the never-ending task of keeping the grass under control; the toilets have to be cleaned and restocked; the refreshments sold in the café and admission hut have to be replenished; and plans have to be made for the next event day.
Now that the Museum is in the ‘open’ season the admission hut is manned on Sunday whenever possible.
The new gates by the admission hut, erected by Frank of the Elmdon Model Engineers Society, have still to be electrified and are intended to help control people at that part of the site. In particular by keeping them closed it is hoped to direct visitors past the ‘honesty box’ for admission money which is in operation on Saturdays but this appears to be having only limited success.
