Reliance Relocates

One of the vehicles hidden in the murky depths of the museum’s perimeter areas has been 866HAL, a Plaxton-bodied AEC Reliance. New to Barton Transport, it passed to a Bedfordshire school before coming to Wythall nearly twenty years ago when it was hoped time would be found to bring it back to original condition.

Lack of space has meant that the Reliance remained outside and it recently became clear that restoration would soon become a very expensive proposition if nothing was done.

Enquires led to Steve Powell, Chairman of the Nottingham Heritage Centre whose collection of buses is kept at its museum in Ruddington, together with railway vehicles of the Great Central Railway Nottingham Ltd. For those who have not visited it, this is a splendid museum. Steve Powell showed as much delight as we would discovering, say, a BMMO S13 and a price was agreed. The Trustees are pleased that the Reliance is moving to Nottingham, a most appropriate home for it, and are confident that 866HAL has its best hope for early restoration with its new owner.
